Safeguarding Policy

Purpose and Scope

Inclusion at Heart is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students. We believe that every child, young person, and vulnerable adult has the right to learn in a safe, supportive environment—free from abuse, harm, and exploitation.

This policy applies to all tutoring activities carried out by Inclusion at Heart, including:

  • One-to-one and group tuition

  • Online and face-to-face sessions

  • All forms of communication with students and parents/carers

Responsibilities

At Inclusion at Heart, we take full responsibility for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students during our sessions, whether delivered online or in person.

We commit to the following safeguarding measures:

  • Holding an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate, registered with the Update Service

  • Undergoing annual DBS check conducted by an independent third party

  • Completing annual safeguarding training

  • Staying informed about changes in safeguarding legislation and updating this policy as needed

  • Avoiding unsupervised 1:1 situations; a parent/guardian must remain within earshot during all sessions

  • Conducting sessions only via secure, password-protected platforms

  • Never communicating with students through private or personal channels

  • Following proper procedures when reporting safeguarding concerns

Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

If a child or young person discloses abuse, or if a safeguarding concern arises, the tutor will take the following steps:

  • Listen calmly and reassure the student that their disclosure is taken seriously

  • Encourage the student to speak freely, without interruption or the use of leading questions

  • Explain that while they will offer support, they cannot promise confidentiality if the student’s safety is at risk

  • Clearly and appropriately outline the next steps, in a way that is age-appropriate

  • Record the disclosure as soon as possible, using the student's own words wherever possible

  • Document the time, date, location, and names of anyone present at the time of the disclosure

  • Report the concern to the relevant safeguarding authority, or contact the police immediately if the child appears to be in immediate danger

Important: It is not the tutor's role to investigate. Once a disclosure has been made, the tutor will report the concern and allow the appropriate authorities to take over.
